Yes - the Hittites would take disease-ridden (anthrax, plague) sheep and leave them outside the walls of ancient cities. Sometimes they would catapult the sheep in, dead or alive. I went down that rabbit hole a few years back and am still learning about this!

That is horrifying and incredible. Catapulting diseased sheep over city walls is exactly the kind of thing I would end up Googling as well.
